Arizona Tiger Trout

posted in: regional | 0

The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) will be stocking tiger trout in state waters for the first time in 2016. Tiger trout are a sterile hybrid of brown trout x brook trout.

The department plans on stocking the trout into Becker, Carnero, Willow Springs, and Woods Canyon lakes in late April or early May.

AGFD acquired around 18,000 tiger trout fingerlings at no cost from Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in July. The trout are being reared at the Tonto Creek Hatchery.

By spring the young trout should average about 10 inches in length and exhibit more pronounced markings.
