Women interested in learning to fish from a kayak can sign up now for a “Becoming an Outdoors-Woman” (BOW) weekend workshop that will be held September 24-26, 2010, at Purity Spring Resort in Madison, N.H. The workshop fee of $275 includes meals and lodging at Purity Spring Resort, instruction, program materials and use of some equipment.

To register, visit www.nhbow.com and download the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Kayak Fishing Weekend workshop brochure and mail-in registration form, or call 603-271-3212 or email aquatic-ed@wildlife.nh.gov to request an application.

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first served basis, by mail or in person at the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, 11 Hazen Drive, Concord, N.H.  Classes fill up fast, so sign up soon if you are interested. Participants must be 18 years or older.

The BOW Kayak Fishing Weekend Workshop is intended for experienced kayakers with some spin fishing experience who want to learn to fish from their kayak. You’ll learn how to rig your kayak for fishing; kayak fishing techniques – casting, using lures, bait and trolling; fishing equipment and tackle; and what to do when you catch a fish. Participants must supply their own spin casting rod and kayak.

There is also space remaining for participants in the NH BOW Fall Weekend, September 10-12 in Holderness. Visit www.nhbow.com for workshop info and registration materials.

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshops in New Hampshire are co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department and the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation (www.nhwf.org).
